3-D Secure rates by country in Europe

Posted on May 26, 2014 Justin Benson

3-D Secure is a controversial online fraud management tool. It’s controversial in that it’s enforced in an ad hoc manner country to country. It is implemented differently on a gateway by gateway basis and it breaks the flow of optimizing for conversion. It’s also something that gateway’s or PSP’s need to enforce but it’s usually mandated on the merchant by the acquiring banks. More than one merchant has been told it’s mandatory only to push back and find out it can be disabled.

Ogone just published a short PDF on their Flex 3DS offering (The 4 page PDF is here). As you know from the payment gateway index we are big believers in sharing data so we are glad Ogone has shared this. For now I’d just like to share their European country by country view. As you can see, adoption rates vary greatly within Europe. This might be helpful for those merchants who feel like 3-D Secure is being forced on them by their acquiring bank.

Thanks Ogone for sharing this.
